With 1.3 billion people, China has the largest population in the world, and has the most internet and wireless users.  Despite this, only 20% of China’s population is connected to the Internet.  With continued high rates of growth, China will experience rapidly greater requirements in internet bandwidth. 

Several early stage Wi-Max Network trials have been conducted in China in 2008 and 2009 and several Operators own licenses at 3.5 GHz frequency.  While Chinese Operators are simultaneously deploying CDMA networks, Wi-Max is viewed as a cost effective alternative in rural areas where wired infrastructure is less widely available.  Interfax news has forecasted that up to $14 billion will be investment WiMax network deployment in China over the next five years.
